Life speaks in half-truths and lies by ommission. If asked to tell the truth, they'd likely shut down. There needs to be a certain layer of trust established before trying to get anything out of them, and even then it will take a lot of patience.

I actually wrote a plot line for Andol and Wynter where Wynter asks Andol to be honest.
Andol kept his mental condition in secret from Wynter until someone sent him a worried letter about him. And even after Wynter becomes his therapist, he still keeps things in the dark from him. However, Wynter knows he's not fully honest, so after the story progresses and Andol gets visibly worse, he has a serious talk with him and asks him to finally open up and tell the truth.
Andol would stay quiet for a whole minute with different emotions showing on his face. Shock, shame, quilt, fear, and a face prepared for the worst reaction once he answers.
"I'm scared. I can't sleep. I can't relax. I can't look at Lara without being reminded on them. I can't stop feeling anxious whenever I see that monster's face in my nightmares. I can't spend a day without thinking about how I'm the reason they're gone. I can't stop hating on myself for failing as a friend, as an uncle, as EVERYTHING! Every day I have to live in fear and I can't stay still!"

Luno would just try to change the topic as desperately as possible ( he would'nt tell a lie though) but would tell the truth after a while
Owens answer would depend on the situation . He would probably lie if he messed something up by just saying that everything is allright. But only if it doesent put someone in danger. Besides that he will lie from time to time.
Cornelius would always be honest , unless he doesent want to hurt someone's feelings.

Aaaa I love this! My character Atheal would either be brutally honest or lie her ass off depending on the situation 
if lying benefited her then yes in a heartbeat, but if she has no other reason to hold back then she will be honest and always accidentally a asshole about it even tho she never means too!! hahahaha
