✨Artfol's art tutorials✨I've noticed the critique section has lots of recurring questions, and thought it would be nice if their was an organized area where artists could post tutorials of their art process for people looking to expand their art knowledge or stretch their creativity.

Basically this is a "challenge" where you can post tutorials and artists can find tutorials such as lighting, bg, shading, anatomy, etc.

I really think this could help artists and would be great way to share the creative process and find new ways to do art.

I already have some ideas for tutorials that I'll post here and there should be my lighting process already if you'd like to check it out.

If you think this is a good idea, or something that artists could benefit from, please consider sharing. This challenge will only work if this community contributes to it:)

Cheers,
Ev

@musicaldoodle tagging myself so I can check this out later!
Ah this sounds like a cool idea! And that's genius how you're using the challenge category :] I'm so glad I opened up artfol again
This is so cool, you used the challenges feature to create a category
If there’s any pixel art or painting ones I’m gonna explooode 😆
this is amazing!! thank you for setting this up!!
Every artist has asked this question when they got Artfol and because I know older users, including myself are tired of answering the same question everyday, here are some tips and tricks to grow your account on artfol!
@ actually included some of this in her Artfol guide, however I thought a more in depth explanation would be beneficial.

Spoiler alert, these are all basically ways you can interact in this app, because that’s how people gain followers and likes, through interacting with people of course! I know it has made us think that interacting will get us nothing in return, however that’s just not true on Artfol. The only way to succeed on this app is if we help each other. Something I see too often is someone leaving the app because they’re disappointed with the lack of attention they got. However if you go to their profile they’re following next to no one and as soon as they post they leave the app, without checking anyone else’s art.
If you don’t care about other people’s art, you can’t expect people to care about yours. It’s as simple as that.

Quick reminder:
Artfol is NOT instagram. I’ve seen people complaining about only 3 hashtags. Unlike ig, there’s no secret algorithm where using secret hashtags will boost your art to the top. Hashtags are for searching for relevant art you want to look at, so don’t stress over that.

1. Comment on people’s art and text posts, aka interact with the community! I know ig has made us think interacting will all be in vain, but on Artfol that’s not true. The more you interact with others, the more people will interact with you. Artfol is a great community to participate and make friends in.
2. Question tabs are a great way to find more people on this app, I LOVE answering QOTDs and seeing other people’s answers. However, that doesn’t mean you should clutter up the question tab with rhetorical questions, it ends up annoying people. Instead of venting about your day and then ending it with “so how was your day?” Consider asking a fun question like “vampires or werewolves?” You’ll get a lot more answers than if you just ask “how’s your day” (which is probably what you’re looking for anyways) and that’s not to say you can’t vent on this app, but maybe don’t vent to put it in the question tab.
3. Scrolling through people’s art and leaving comments not only improves other people’s engagement but yours as well! Whenever someone comments on my art I always check out their profile and maybe leave them a comment, I know this is true for a lot of regulars. Also try not to stay on the trending page. With the release of the app, tons of popular ig artists now have Artfol and are all over the trending page. And that’s good for them! It’s nice to see people succeed, however that means one of the draws to Artfol, that even small artists can succeed is harder to achieve. If you want followers, you have a much higher chance at meeting people who’d be interested in following you back while scrolling through hashtags of the other categories next to trending.
4. Before the app was released and didn’t crash all the time, I’d try to follow at least one person before exiting out of the app, this encouraged me to go through lots of people’s art and was a way to keep myself account and giving back to the app.
5. Some people post on the critique tab without asking for critique, thinking it’ll keep their art relevant for a longer amount of time. While this was true with the first couple months of beta, it’s not anymore. People who go to the critique section are looking for critique, and when people aren’t asking for critique properly it can be annoying. But the critique section should be used! If you caption your art with specific things you want critiques on, there’s a much higher chance you’ll get multiple people critique you. As someone who uses the critique section often, it’s awkward critiquing people with no caption because I have been attacked for giving critique to caption less art labelled critique.
6. And finally, I know this is a cliché, but don’t stress over numbers on Artfol, especially since the app is super laggy because of all the new people, sometimes you see a cool piece but don’t like it because the app will kick you out and some people don’t like as much as they do on ig. Since there’s no save button yet, I personally use likes as a save button and comment to show my support instead. While ig has made us hyper focused on the numbers, it’s an unhealthy mindset to carry over to Artfol.

Artfol should be a safe space for people to share their shared passion of art, not for us to fight and feel the need to have more followers than someone else. I can guarantee you the more you put into this community, the more you’ll get out of it.
I hope this cleared things up for some people and gave you more insight to succeed on Artfol. If any other betas have additional things to add feel free to add them in the comments.
Cheers,

Awesome idea, thanks for hosting!
Just sent my tutorial 😌
Cool idea!
I love this! There are so many things I would make a tutorial on - I’m not sure what to choose??
Love this idea! I'm sure I have something.
I was just thinking about this!
Yessss, tutorials, I need thesee. I'm not very skilled yet but I do have some ideas of simple tutorials I could try to make. Thank you for this great idea btw, we've got some big brained artists here, eh?
omg i’m definitely screenshotting this and joining as soon as i’ve finished my next two peices :0
Oooo this might be fun. I’m not great for a lot of things but I’m good at oddly specific stuff like Opalite. Might try this out!
I hope my file submission is OK? It's not literal art advice but has saved me so much when organizing my art! 😊
awesome and helpful idea <33
This is so damn smart you're big braining over here whilst we're crawling (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
Ooh this is a great challenge! Thinking of making a clothing wrinkles tutorial 💖 (in paint-ish style)
I like this! How can one follow a challenge? Is that possible? So that i see new posts under this challenge in my feed?
I think I might do an anatomy tutorial. Is there anything special you would like to see?
Awesome idea! This will be the first actual challenge I participate in on ArtFol. :D
I hope we're able to add more than one submission, because I've been thinking of making other tutorials in the future.

Gonna submit one now that I made last year or so to teach how I used to do slime characters. 95% of it is still accurate I just changed which program I draw in so some of the tools I mention in it have changed for me. 😅
This is such a great idea! The more knowledge shared, better!
I think I still have a Gimp2 tutorial somewhere...
Just participated ^^ cool idea
😯this is super cool thanks a lot I'll be gathering all my tutorials and format them to post here I would love to help with some extra knowledge🙇🏾‍♀️💕💕
I would love to do a tutorial if it helps anyone but I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to do it :(
