Day 2 • Lovers

[Note: This is Inktober art from the 2nd of October 2020, I'll be uploading back art to my Artfol account over the new couple weeks.]

"Tell me." Mary's words pressed into the same curving tone as her smirk. She leant against Tevya's shoulder, meeting his hazel eyes with a hint of mischief in her own.

"I have told you, your blood carries the scent of that rueful drink you depend on so." The Vampire's voice was a terse grumble, but this was Tevya's way and he no more perturbed Mary than stopped her from pressing him where other's would have been intimidated into silence.

"...And?" Mary quirked an eyebrow, leaning a little closer and watching with satisfaction as the twitch of a grudging smile tugged at the corner of Tevya's stern mouth.

"Dark Magic. Your particular magic...heavy smoke rising from a blessed vessel." Tevya grappled with how to place an image to Mary's danger and innocence. It was fascinating, intoxicating...

"That's not what you were thinking earlier, Tev." She said, expecting a quick reaction, not simply because she had chosen to flaunt the nickname Tevya found so undignified.

"You infuriating woman!" He exclaimed, eyes narrowing as a morbidly amused smile finally ran along his lips where it had so reluctantly begun earlier.

"I already know..." Mary tugged at Tevya's tight black t-shirt. "You might as well say it."

Watching Mary keenly to try and decipher if she were simply bluffing, the man chided himself for considering such a deception from the woman. "Lillies." He finally grumbled, his Russian accent more prominent owing to the frustration of defeat.

A gentle smile wiped away Mary's smirk and she pressed a tiny kiss against Tevya's cheek.

"I will start thinking in Russian when I am around you." Tevya threatened mildly, the back of his chilly hand tenderly brushing a lock of hair from the smiling Mary's cheek.

"Then I suppose I'll just have to learn Russian, won't I?"

I was really excited by madie_arts' Day 2 prompt on Instagram. Immediately two of my OCs, Mary Jenkins and Teyva Voronin came to mind. There's things I love and hate about this piece, most importantly I learned some lessons about my art.
