Selkie
I drew this for my Fantasy Friday series over on TikTok. If you are not familiar, Selkies are seals can take the form of a human, usually a woman, by shedding their seal skin. Most of the stories of Selkies are a bit sad and are about human men waiting for the Selkies to take human form, then taking the seal skin so that they are trapped in human form and then forcing them to be their wives. I wanted to create a piece that was calming (like the seal in under the surface, but Lao slightly melancholy and that showed both the woman and the seal.If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and watch the movie “the Song of the Sea.” It’s a beautiful retelling of a Selkie myth.Jun 24, 2022
