In the end, I decided to add a wall behind him to change the overall mood of the painting, although I usually leave the background on practice portraits a simple grey color.

What do you think? Do you like the practice portraits more like a sketch on an empty/grey background, or do you prefer to add some kind of mood and background? Or do you have any other ideas to use?
