Of Fates and Ironies...Aye it's been a while....decided to finish this while I git the time and energy to do so. This AU fanfic is shaping up rather nicely in my mind and I keep squealing at the thought that I probably won't write about it sooo I'm just gonna dump a "brief" summary of their stories below 🤣
..
Prince Alef has been prince for far too long. Despite being sent to the realm by their deity to connect the people back to the Light, his upbringing in a puritan environment and his desire for perfection made him look at humans in disdain for their falability and wantoness. So he diverted his efforts to saving the Light Creatures, the realm's life blood, by creating an alternative energy source, the Shard, powered only by a little amount of Light. However, he and King Resh have different plans for the Shard, and when Alef realizes how twisted Resh's ambitions are, he confronts him only to be stabbed, stolen of his Light and cast out of Eden, accused of being a rebel.
But his banishment would bring him closer to the humans, seeing past their flaws and admire their ingenuity and resilience. Circumstance would lead him to the rebels, the oppressed, the displaced and the overlooked, who had been fighting for their rights over their land. He also falls in love with his best friend.
He lived more in the three years of his exile than he did in the almost two centuries he ruled as prince, and with a renewed purpose, he leads the rebels and the Elders in a fight against Resh, who had built his own version of the Shard despite being told that it was unstable.
But it didn't end well. Despite regaining his Light (power and his immortality) Alef allowed himself to be absorbed by the Shard, knowing the only way to destroy it was from the inside. What he didn't count on was how the Shard and his Light interacted.

In the outside world, it erupted and caused a storm that killed everyone except those who had evacuated deep in the caverns or into the Aviary or just lucky to have survived.
Inside the Shard, it created a Void where time did not exist, and Alef, disconnected from the Light of the outside world, realizes how dire his situation has become.

Two hundred years later, the realms are thriving again, and a new race occupied the kingdom- the Skyfolk, humans with Light in their core. Coming from the Sky, like the Elders, they've heralded themselves as the savior of the realm and therefore, masters of those who live there.
And then Aidan was born.
Taken in by a human, Aidan grew up among humans until he was discovered to be a Skyfolk and was taken away. He would learn from his mentor the socio-political climate of the realm, that both races are not on good terms with each other. Before he had a proper grasp of his heritage, he was forced to do his first Cycle and instead of ascending to Orbit, he ended up falling into the Shard where he meets Alef, who didn't realize so much time had passed. This encounter would leave Aidan with a profound need to find the truth about the Kingdom's history and a way to free Alef from the Shard. This puts him in a position where he is both lauded as a symbol for peace and a threat to the existing norm.

However, tensions between the Skyfolk and the humans evolve into an all-out war, forcing Aidan to take a side. But he doesn't and instead gathers enough fighters and followers to become a third conflict in the race war- the Neutral People.
This would have dire consequences and the toll of keeping the two races from obliterating each other would drive him to desparate and unpredictable measures, making him the common enemy of the two races...

I guess that's all for now. I just love the irony of their fates. They do end up victorious, with Alef destroying the Shard and ascending the Light into Orbit, restoring the balance and Aidan redeeming himself by helping Alef rebuild their kingdom.

It's a long story, thanks for coming to my TEDTalk 🤣🤣
