Hello, young man

You finally get to see Friend.
A creature that technically wasn't even alive, didn't have a real personality, and was created and tied to one specific spot of the world for a single purpose: to act as a death mechanism when the time comes. It's made out of darkness, eyes and human teeth, just a nice little fact.

It didn't have a name, but upon meeting it and agreeing to work together, Potalia named it Friend, as it was the only creature he could talk to, the only one that completely accepted him and gave him a "good body". Potalia never really had friends, because at a young age he got sick with a flu, got sent to the local herbalist as a last resort, and as an aftereffect got exotropia (his eyes look away from where the focus is), so he got bullied for looking differently and being connected to a "witch". He never fit in, and at the time and place of his birth it was the only way to have friends. He was born in a small village, in a country with very conservative views, in age where superstitions were more common than equality. He's also trans, which made life much harder, even with the fact that he could never publicly announce it. But I'll talk about that a bit later.

Friend wasn't an evil creature, it barely had a "self" at all, it was concentrated on achieving their goal, but at the same time it was friendly enough to treat Potalia well and give him the sense of having a fulfilling social interaction. There was a part of a soul and mind in it, I could say. Enough to adapt to circumstances if they'd change, but not enough to be whole. But it was enough for Potalia.

Potalia spent the last year of his former life deep in the woods, surviving and hiding from humans. He was relatively good at it, but he was burning out more and more, losing his connection to the society he grew up in, which had no place for him, and slowly he just stopped wanting to go on. He met Friend when he hid in a small cave and fell asleep. This is the illustration of the moment when he woke up. Friend woke up too, it was time. And it greeted Potalia with "hello, young man", which immediately made him attached to this insane piece of darkness. It explained and showed him that the world needs to end, which doesn't count as brainwashing, because it'd be like showing a book character that their world has the last chapter. And Potalia agreed to help. He never knew that there were placed where he'd be accepted, he never had a luxury of traveling far. So he only knew the outside world as either cruel people or survival in the woods. He just stopped caring at that point. He wanted to live in peace and have friends, but he couldn't, besides, Friend said it would change his body to be more suitable for the mission. So he decided to bargain, and asked for a "new, good body" in exchange for help. Yep, ya boi made an actual deal with death. He is smart.

Friend then proceeded to help Potalia with his part of the mission, enchanting everyone in the royal castle where Potalia was a jester, so that they didn't pay attention to his looks and actions. It worked on all, except for one. For some reason. TBC

FRIEND LOOKS SO COOL THO i am a fan like yes if a bunch of darkness and eyes and human teeth suddenly started a conversation with me id be pretty freaked out but honestly it seems very polite :)
ALSO I DIDNT KNOW POTALIA WAS TRANS dang i keep relating to him more and more

i love how u ended this lore text too im so curious now i wanna know everything "it worked on all, except for one" wHO?!?!? WHOOOOOOO?!?!??!?!?!!?
