Lineart practice in sai

Happy Saturday! It’s the weekend - finally - and we can do whatever we want! This means some practice work for me without any boundaries :3

I always adored how Eastern European artists do their line work - it is so dynamic still soft. I knew they mostly use SAI, but I couldn’t really figure out the brush edits itself. It was definitely something that blended and a basic brush, no fancy textures or anything. I am that person who rather tries to figure things on her own and not asking for help and even though I do have my own solution, I still didn’t have the exact answer to this question.

But today I finally asked @/stashishere on Instagram about this topic and she kindly took her time to give me an answer: indeed the software is SAI, but the brush is the marker brush, not the simple brush! And of course I had to test it!

Oh man wasn’t it weird xD The marker brush in SAI is not even similar to any PS brushes - I do love PS, but it wouldn’t be my first choice for painting only. I rather go with SAI if I would start my journey today. The SAI brush setting are unfamiliar to me because I don’t use the software a lot - or at all - so I have to figure my way out around the options and the brush usage as well, but it was so much fun to do!

If you wanna give this brush a go, but don’t have SAI: A simple hard round brush with opacity on and lower flow edit has a similar effect.

Oh, that's an interesting tidbit of Information! The brush definitely looks soft, it's really neat!

I'd love to draw something this weekend, but it depends on how much studying i'll get done— perhaps I'll make some self-indulgent background sketches ^^
