#13 - Death | Peony (The Wild)

Finally: Death! And it's... NOT my longstanding and beloved oc who's the aspect of death in this pantheon! (Don't worry, he's coming. I just like to keep you all on your toes.)
In tarot, Death is a card of... well, death, yes, but also of cycles. Things all inevitably end, and it will only hurt you to try and prevent this. We need our endings before we can have our new beginnings.
This indiscriminate, cyclical force reminded me a lot of Peony, aspect of the Wild. She embodies whole ecosystems built on individual niches, acting without any particular laws. Things of her domain are known to warp and evolve and come crashing down only to build themselves back up again, because that's the push and pull of any world.
Peony takes many forms, though rarely a humanoid one - she's only marginally more of a recluse than the Mother of Madness (The Hermit). She tends to appear, regardless, with a deer's skull for a head and pink peonies blooming from the eye sockets. Here, I based her body on a white-tailed deer.Feb 2, 2024
