I’m generally uneasy about how AI is being used to advertise scams and addictive content to people— but lately, I cant get it out of my mind that people have and will use it to reanimate the image of dead loved ones.
As someone who has lost close family members I can only imagine how much it would’ve interrupted my grieving process to see them like that.
Maybe some grieve differently enough— but I have a suspicion it will just cause prolonged rumination and suffering for most people.May 20, 2026

It's a psychological nightmare. We already have people killing because of AI "loved ones". Keeping the dead alive will fry many brains. I will cut contact to anyone doing that. They are a huge risk.
It's like this huge story about the lady who cloned their dog but weren't happy because it didn't act like the dead one but as an individual. Out brain isn't made for that.

•Very recently I read an article that this is already an actual business in Russia. There is a company that makes AI videos of fallen soldiers where, for example, they're angels saying goodbye to loved ones before going to Heaven.

•Honestly I would never have thought of using AI for that. Even more, in respect of that dead person. I think it also has to do with acceptance but not crossing that boundary that, like you said in your comments, can harm a person emotionally.
It's not worth dreaming the "what if" when it is what it is. AI can unfortunately become a god for people if they use it for purposes that only feed on their emotions (among other things). That's just my take on it.
P.S funny you brought up AI too cuz I was just talking to a close relative about the AI scams that was on the news recently. Crazy stuff

•unlesssss, it’s like a weird reverse uno card where you realize this AI mockup of them is so untrue to the complexity/reality of who they were that you can just snap out of it… but I somehow doubt thats the goal of companies trying this. There’s probably no money in a service people use only a couple times.

I know all technology can be viewed as magic to those who were not raised alongside it. This unregulated AI seems like black magic— the kind of power that will harm you in exchange for everything it offers.
