I will never forget when there was an eclipse here in central Europe but I was in elementary school and the teachers wouldn't allow us to go outside because we were stupid 10 year olds who would have looked at it without protection 
they completely blocked the windows with blinds and everything and we weren't allowed to go outside during the breaks. Like I very much understand their reasoning and it was absolutely better than having a bunch of kids go blind under your care, but I was PISSED they caused me to miss such a major one-in-a-lifetime (or few-in-a-lifetime) event
