Ant doodles redraw

Some redraws of some of my very first sketches of Ant from 2019 — apparently it was after those that I named him but he was still nameless then. Mostly doodled these to practice digital more and to use ibis bc i’ve mostly used Sketchbook to draw digital (still prefer some ui and features there tbh but might be bc it’s what i got used to first? I just find that i make more often mistakes on ibis? Just bc of the difference from certain things i’m used to, idk)

So just wanted to doodle digitally and do something greyscale, and more doodly style in terms of rendering, but I find it so hard honestly to do a ‘less is more’ kinda thing or rather a doodly style that still looks good and might end up doing more than i need
But yea figured I should do redraws of Ant just bc i always use him as a ‘guinea pig’ for stuff like that xD and always love to do redraws of the first concepts of my ocs haha – i’ve redrawn some of the early stuff of him already but not those and have been wanting to redraw it

Started these the 12th but had to tweak stuff and then i for some reason started blending stuff on layers i shouldn’t have and couldn’t get back the colouring how it originally was.. so redid it over again. I just wanted a simpler doodle style,, ended up spending so much time redoing stuff, but also had to tweak them even more bc angles combined with expressions are hard.. especially wide open mouths… the top right one was such a struggle i swear
But these are fun expressions to draw!!

So here’s the old sketches: https://www.artfol.co/a/soEjODP

He looks so cool! ✨

And hopefully the newer art program will become more comfortable to use!
I totally get it with "less is more" being so difficult! And small differences in ui/drawing set up can make such a huge difference, at least in my experience. But these still look good! The less is more is really working with his expressions imo!
