@bilvyy's post on Artfol

hey 👉👈 been a little busy to post so i thought i’d stay active with a text post. i hope these little blogs aren’t too annoying, i genuinely find it so nice to share here.

so i already wrote about how i’ve just come back to work and am focusing pretty heavily on that. already wishing i was on break again ;; but on top of that, my comic is about to come off hiatus, so i’ve had a real tight deadline to smash out some more buffer episodes, AND i’ve only got a week left to finish painting some rooms at my roommate’s new house.

deadlines blowwww. they blow even harder when there’s three at once and everything either takes a lot of time to do, or hard physical work. i’ve been enjoying the hell out of painting, and did like 7 walls on my own on saturday, but it’s busted up every muscle in my arms and back. i don’t think i’ve had a hot bath so many days in a row before LOL

i did somehow manage to finish my comic buffer too?! even while aching. working on an ipad makes it so much more doable, since i can draw in bed if i need extra comfort, or head out like i did on sunday. after a long hard week like this one, i find cafe work the most invigorating and motivating 🙏 everything i normally visit was closed since it was ANZAC day, so i went into a restaurant that was open and practically empty (which made me feel a lot better about hogging a table for a few hours, but i still spent like $30 on burgers and drinks so i wasn’t sitting there for free for too long 😭). the staff were sweeties as well; i’ve gotten very lucky with the amazing eateries in this small town.

anddd as a nice little surprise, i thought i was going to finish the 4 episode of buffer i needed, then switch back to sketching new content (the hardest part of comics, for me). but as i finished colouring the last page, i noticed that past!me had inked two extra episodes than i remembered!!! so i smashed out those colours and now i’ve got an extra two weeks of buffer without having to sketch anything new 😭💛

i wanted to keep that train going so i continued pre-sketching in bed that night, while the roomie’s cat kept me company and stuck to me like glue 💛 pre-sketching for me involves taking the thumbnails from my initial first draft and transferring them onto a new .clip file, since i initially started my comic as a regular page-by-page graphic novel, and have since started drawing it on long vertical webcomic-style pages. much prefer it this way, and it gives me a chance to edit the thumbnails to improve the pacing, and re-write the dialogue balloons with my new and improved typesetting knowledge ✨i lied about sketching being hardest part, it’s definitely thumbnails, since having to create something from a totally blank page is always super daunting. but thankfully these episodes salvaged a lot from the original thumbnails which made it pretty soothing work.

alright, that about summarises what’s on my mind and what i’ve been working hard at ;; i don’t know if anyone actually reads these, so a big thank you if you did! let me know if you also share little blogs on artfol, because i’d love to read along and share in someone else’s day to day adventures 💛

Gosh that sounds crazy!! I wish you the best of luck on all the stuff you're doing!! ;u; )
Amazing that completed your buffer! Give yourself a round of applause for that! I’m so scared of making a buffer only to eat through it bc I think “I have a buffer meh” Does that ever happen to you?
