What would cause Galvus - the deadliest rogue in the realms of elves and men - to offer up the main tool of his trade, his venomous dagger? Only the blood of Jesus.
Obviously, I'm using my fictional fantasy character to illustrate a larger point. The elven rogue Galvus spent much of his life living by the blade. He shed the blood of innumerable men with the point of his dagger, many in self-defense, but many more for the love of treasure. I sincerely hope no one reading this has ever taken anyone's life. But when Jesus was crucified, I was guilty of that blood, because my sin made His sacrifice necessary. I'm so thankful that He offers forgiveness for all of my sin. The truth is, it can be difficult to surrender my sin to Him. I'm a mess, and many of those things that I know are wrong, I still want to do them, and sometimes I give in. And often times when I go to the Lord in prayer, I confess my sin and I ask forgiveness. And then, feeling completely unworthy of being relieved of my guilt, I take up that same burden and carry it away with me again. It can be so tough to surrender that sin, to lay it down at the foot of the cross and leave it there. But 1 John 1:9 tells us that "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I'm so thankful that Jesus wants to forgive me even when I'm not so sure I really want it, and is ready to take my burden if I'll only surrender it.
Your burden probably isn't in the form of a physical weapon, but sin is a deadly blade that endangers our lives and souls. Surrender that burden. I love you guys. More importantly, Jesus loves you. #JuneforJesusJun 7, 2026
