Am I the only one who gets a little upset when people compare ocs with characters that already exists?? I'm sure their intentions are good, but, like, I'm here trying to design a cool character (and designing characters is not an easy thing) and someone comes and compares it to the most basic character on earth comenting "she looks like Daenerys Targaryen
". Bruh
Like, I'm here developing color palets and an entire wardrove inspired on cultures developed in cold places and you just see f*cking Daenerys Targaryen, dude? Am I doing a bad job or you just see Daenerys in every woman with white hair WHAT IS IT, TELL ME

It's annoying yeah :(
Thing is, when I was a younger teen i did that too and I totally saw it as a compliment, but if another person doesn't know my inner thought process all they hear is "looks like something else" and it's sad. People usually don't stop and think about it unless someone makes them.
People also tend to see a single feature that's famous bc of one character and then compare every other character to them just because they share a feature. And yes, it sucks
I know i don't comment on your posts much, but just so you know, I love your characters and their designs and totally want to see what you create in the future!

Ah this, yes. It can be quite disheartening to see those kinds of comments, especially after you've developed your ocs, their background story, personality, etc and then people summarize them into ''oh hey they look like _'' just because they have a few similar characteristics to an existing, more popular characters...

I started feeling so stressed everytime I got my characters compared to some of famous shows TvT the funny thing is I either made the ocs BEFORE the show existed even or I never saw the show/game/media to begin with until it gets pointed out
It's just stressful, then it seems like my oc ain't original when it is

No, you’re not the only one.
Non-artists or new artists think it’s a compliment, but it’s genuinely an insult.

•THIS!! SO MUCH THIS!! I absolutely wholeheartedly agree with you
And it's so weird that people genuinely think that this weird comparison is somehow a compliment
Like where in the world is it a complement? It's really degrading since it's literally saying "your design is so uncreative because it already exists, take a look at [shitty canon character here]"
Sorry, if I sound angry, this topic just really drives me nuts and I have seen this shit so many times towards my ocs

•Yeah it kinda upsets me. Like I know for sure that when people make comparisons there’s no bad intent, but it still kinda bums me out
like bruv I worked so hard to make them look unique why you gotta do me like that

•you’re valid!!! your frustration is valid!!!
its really hard to design original characters so bringing up something like “oh they look like this other popular character!” kinda feels like all your behind-the-scenes efforts get dismissed and its just really sad, esp. if u cant stop thinking about that comment each time u redraw ur character

•it makes me really upset, one of my OCs first designs was heavily based on another character since I made him when I was younger and I didn't know much about making characters yet, at first I was fine w the comparison but I stopped wanting my OC to be connected to that character. I stopped liking the comparison and I wanted the character to me more unique and my own. and I kept on trying to change it, but it still got compared :( luckily since the last update they haven't been compared, which I'm kinda thankful for since I like their current design, but when I was trying super hard to change that OC enough to not get compared but still keep them how I wanted and they still got compared ...it made me really unmotivated to make any more art or characters :/

•It's like, super disrespectful to the artists, and it's usually for something super basic like hair and eye colour like what??
