Novakid
This is Magee (or McGee), my Starbound character. He is a novakid, which is basically a race of space-people made of gas or something like that. They're the coolest race bc their existence makes no sense. They're also wild west cowboy themed. And that's a shame bc I can't draw hats.I gotta say, Starbound has a very confusing character creation in regards to gender settings and I want to ramble about it bc it's really bizzare to me. It's not even criticism. Basically, you can only choose between two genders for your mc, male or female, but then the npcs are sometimes referred to as they/them, as well as she and he, so this game does include nb people to some degree. Another thing is, nobody ever addresses the mc in any way that is gendered, even pronouns aren't used. And I have a question. W h y do we even chose then
I feel a bit awkward when I talk about games not having a nonbinary option for mc, because i feel too demanding, but also no, screw it, i need to be able to be me if i want to. In the newer games especially. Also Starbound is a mess bc of what i just wrote, and i love it as a game, and i will call it out
Tbh because of this I chose to believe that novakids, being made of gas, have no understanding of biological sex/sex-based-gender systems and just pick a pronoun set they like and roll with it. So Magee is a man but also isn't, cuz he's a freaking cloud of gas. With a gun. And that pink thing is a flower, i found it at the start of the game and will never take it offApr 21, 2022
