It's official, AURORA said The Dark Dresses Lightly is about alcoholism, I can now claim it as a personal anthem without feeling like I'm misinterpreting her musicJun 30, 2024

Ok and it's not like it's a BAD thing to write about those topics, in fact I appreciate music that really digs into the dark parts of our psyche and opens up conversations about topics we're too afraid to talk about. But like. 😖 I always looked up to her because she could always find stability and beauty in the world despite struggling emotionally. Now she's changed, and it's not BAD to struggle and make art about struggling that much, it's just new and different. Her music is still as powerful and meaningful as ever though sooo 😺 idk
It's sOOOO hard to not want to hear about every single painful detail about her thought process for every song but I KNOW how personal this album was for her 😭 and I can FEEL it when I'm listening to it. She needs to keep it private and tbh if she did end up trauma dumping during an interview I would be WORRIED,, but mannnn how did this ethereal being who wrote songs about accepting sadness and finding beauty in pain get so beat down by her struggles that she started writing about giving up and going down dark paths. It's just. The juxtaposition.

Yes I'm STILL thinking about What Happened To The Heart a month later, shut up
The way she's mentioned in several interviews that she was drunk during most of her studio session, I'm like 💔 relatable and understandable but also babes pls take care of yourself I really hope she was being responsible and like,, not developing a destructive relationship to alcohol. ANYWAY it's not really my business in any capacity except for how I personally relate to her music due to context she shares in interviews
