This love will swallow us whole | (rendered sketch)I know I keep forgetting to be active, but I'll try to post more and check out your art
as a treat, have a sketch of Ari (they/them), my ice fairy!! I mentioned they used to be a human who was turned into a fairy, only to be abandoned by the person who brought them into the Fae realm. Now Ari is completely alone in an unknown world. The part I left out is... that they can be a bit vengeful. Or at least, they were in the past.
Upon being abandoned, they really had nothing left to lose, for they didn't even have their memories or a place to go back to. Ari was also convinced they were an awful, nasty, person by their ex, so it only seemed natural to seek revenge. What other option did they have, when they couldn't find company in this cruel world? The only path they saw was a self-destructive one, where the onlt thing that mattered is to bring her down with them.
So... Ari ended up killing their ex. It took a lot of planning considering that she was a Great Fairy, one of the most powerful entities in the Fae realm, but they found a way to overpower her. She wouldn't go without a fight though, so Ari fully accepted that her flames might end up consuming them. It's not like they had anything to live for.
Don't worry, though, this is a past memory of theirs. They managed to survive the encounter, saved by a little magical fox. Taking that as a sign, they decided to live, but not without a lingering sense of guilt that would burden them wherever they went
This artwork and this part of Ari's backstory is very inspired by Rabbitology's song, Wildfire (Gone, Gone, Gone) / Death song. Ari's ex partner was abusive and deceived them into thinking she really did love them, only to abandon them when she got bored. No wonder they felt betrayed. Of course, their reaction was a bit extreme... but I understand them Feb 28, 2026
I really love the lighting, it looks ominous despite the deadpan expression. I think that's what makes it cool. It's very beautiful at the same time, I love the scratchy shading. Also, dang Ari, their backstory was harsh.
