My mind and the mirror play tricks on me.
TW: implications of body dysmorphiaI decided to do something a little more personal.
I struggle with my physical appearance and liking what I see in the mirror. For as long as I could remember I was between 90-100lbs and constantly struggled with people telling me how lucky I was to be skinny but then being told I was too thin and needed to "eat a burger." Recently I've gained weight and suddenly can't fit in my favorite clothes. The internal dialogue has changed from feeling too thin to being worried about where the extra weight falls on my body. Now I'm told how nice I look because I "finally have curves" and "actually look feminine" but then it's pointed out how my clothes don't fit the same and are looking tight.
I know I'm a healthy weight. I know everything is okay but when I look in the mirror I can't help but see the areas that look too large or look too small.Mar 6, 2022
