In A Deep Lake"My friends tell tales of a woman who swims in the forest's deep waters. Of the gargantuan lake hidden beneath the canopy, where she dances above the depths. Of her exquisite black hair and entrancing blue eyes, peeking out at you from the centre of the lake. They positively couldn't stop talking about her; how they wanted to swim with her so badly.
"I worry for what will become of my friends. For while she indeed has black hair and blue eyes, once I saw her for myself, I must say that they were wrong about one thing: that thing is no woman."
Woo, I've had artblock for a little while, so this was great to get the ideas churning! I accidentally got way too into it
So, I was trying to think about what creeps me out. I'm fine with needles, dolls, and most bugs; and while I don't like guns or cigarettes, those typically make a character design cool, not scary. And I realised the best thing I could think of was deep, clear yet dark water. Especially in an enclosed area, like a cave. It's not thalassophobia? And I'm fine with pools. But deep tide pools and ocean cave systems typically freak the crap out of me.
I also really hate long, wet hair. I don't want to see it. I don't want to touch it.
As for stuff I hate to draw: cohesive landscapes! Depth!
Anyway, I might do more with this "lady" and this setting. This was really fun to draw!Jan 11, 2022

I wanted to be an on field marine biologist until I realized "oooh, I... am absolutely terrifyed of dark, deep water..."
