Phantom and Reverie :)ok guys this was supposed to be quick and i wanted to make it an actual character sheet but i got carried away and also i write way too fucking big and too much so brace yourselves for this massive 1.5 google doc-page essay:
Everyone knows of the Whitlocks for 3 things: 1) their natural white hair and pink irises; 2) their old money status; and 3) the blue stones on their foreheads, a reminder to the world of their clairvoyance. While limited in certain aspects, this inherited ability is largely why their family businesses are so successful, just like many other wealthy, superpowered families. Some call it unfair, but to these families, it's just how business is done.
Chrissie and Charlie are twins, and the youngest of the main branch of the Whitlocks. Chrissie, an art restorer, interns at the family’s famed art museum in order to take over the business one day, and Charlie, a detective and heir to the family’s law firm, is a celebrity in their own right due to his ability to solve the most difficult of cases.
To everyone else, they're the perfect image of socialites – well spoken, well dressed, and well mannered. But they've seen what goes on behind the scenes – the lies, the scheming, the corruption – and they've devised a plan. Chrissie, a trickster, and quick on her feet, works alongside the villains to steal from and expose the supernatural upper class. And Charlie, a beloved hero who has been given the name “Reverie” by the people, just so happens to be the detective assigned to track down “Phantom” – or in this case, cover for his sister.
POWERS:
* Whitlock family: Can only hazily see the past/future/remote present of events, but their strength lies in seeing the past/future of certain objects/beings – ex/ both twins can hold a pencil and tell exactly where, when, and how it was made, who has used it before, when it will be completely used up, etc. Typically, the person must come in physical contact with the object/being to use their powers.
* Charlie: Family clairvoyance, with enhanced retrocognition of events (being able to see the past). Ability of mental inducement – they can induce short-term change in people’s emotions, desires, etc. Because his powers require physical contact and he can’t ruin crime scenes, he can’t rely on them too much in his job.
* Chrissie: Family clairvoyance. Can induce hallucinations for however long she likes, although the longer it gets, the more tired she gets. Doesn’t need physical contact for either, but for clairvoyance, she must be within 100 meters of the target.
TRIVIA:
* Only those who are Whitlocks by blood have the white hair, pink irises, and are clairvoyants. (There is no monarchy-style Habsburg chin inbreeding!!!) In the twins’ case, their non-Whitlock side is what gives them the ability to manipulate senses.
* The blue stone allows them to control their clairvoyance, so they don't go insane from trying to hold something and involuntarily seeing the object’s entire backstory every time (think Saiki K’s glasses/antennae). It's removable, but highly discouraged.
* Charlie doesn't hate villains. He just doesn't understand why they can't do things more efficiently and orderly. Chrissie has tried explaining to them that it's just more fun to fight with grander theatrics, but her point has never stuck.
* Chrissie is older by 6 minutes and the heiress to the family fortune. However, she sucks at managing money, and has delegated that duty to Charlie, who claims they know what they're doing.
* They have worked against their own family before, quite a few times. It's done a number to their parents’ reputations, and to their wealth, but people like the twins a lot (especially Charlie) so it doesn't hurt them personally too much.
* Yes, they do stage fights against each other in public. Sometimes it's just for show, sometimes it’s legit because of petty personal grudges. Either way, they have a lot of fun.
* Chrissie LOVES theatre, music, and literature. She did not choose the name “Phantom” – a tabloid once described her as such – but she finds it extremely fitting. She’s a polyglot as well, and learned French, German, and Italian just so she could understand operas and choral parts of classical music (the twins both know English, Mandarin, and Latin).
* Charlie’s mask is mostly for symbolic/work uniform purposes. It’s not to actually hide their identity, b/c let’s be real that shit ain’t hiding anything.
* Chrissie creates a hallucination mask over her hair every time she goes out as Phantom. It’s bright pink and doesn’t really go with her outfit, but she doesn’t mind standing out :)
* Chrissie's mask is inspired by both the Phantom of the Opera and Chinese opera masks. She made it herself!
