Okaro, corruption arc

ok i was able to draw again right away, started this sketch yesterday after finishing my previous post

OC-tober 7: What if, and OC-tober 9: corruption/redemption arc
(again, I know it’s late but wanted to try and finish more prompts, this is the last one)

I don’t know what this is.. think i wanted to do some manga-esque style idk,, this ended up different than I intended, really conflicted abt the shadow on his face :|
I kinda forgot I wanted to do just pencil but with lineart in pens, I just kept thinking black/white scale so started using a brush pen instead of pencil for his hair and stuff, and did the shadows and stuff with pens too but i decided to go over it with pencil anyway to even it out more bc the shadow I wanted across his face didn’t really look good with just a bunch of lines? I don’t really know,, just experimental stuff…

I had a hard time making up my mind which prompt to do (especially if I only were to do one more bc I don’t wanna drag it into december) but landed on corruption arc, but actually this kinda fits into "what if Okaro wasn’t saved" too (does this count as spoiler?) so it works for both; I really wanted to do the What if one but it was so hard to think of what to draw or which of my stories to do for it. But I like that this is what I ended up with bc it works for both, but I started drawing it for the corruption prompt

So, Okaro is from my story "The Heartstone" one of the ones I’ve shared most about on here, it’s my current most prioritised project (trying to finish the 1st draft of the second book) at least I TRY to prioritise it over my way too many other WIPs but also a bit of a writing block lately, i’ve written a tiny bit here and there but overall i really haven’t worked on this story in a good while, since like august, not as much as I would’ve wanted anyway just very short paragraphs that were already half written I’ve just added a few sentences, but at least it’s something and I’m more motivated to write now than I was – I kept thinking abt the story but actually working on it is another thing


For the lore or context of this, dark magic if used enough can corrupt your mind and also leave scars on your body, they might look like tattoos but they’re more like burns and are very painful, they also hurt every time you use dark magic again. He keep this magic stone around his neck to draw more energy from, magic also exhausts your body and mind no matter wether it’s dark or not but dark magic has more risk of being lethal if overused. I did a lore challenge earlier this year so you can find more about the story in my collection The Heartstone

So for some of the scenes in the books, he gets more and more of these burns while performing magic but they mostly dissapear once he cancel the spells, a few leave a permanent mark in canon but for this it’s more if he used way more, to the extent where half his body is marked for life and he looses his mind


I really loved the sketch but the finished result I’m a bit conflicted about, but so fun to draw some "insane" faces! xD



I think I’ll say I’m done with the challenge now, still three prompts left but I already decided not to do two of them before october ended
