a sleepover of sorts

Here's the snippet I wanted to share originally for V's birthday!! I didn't want to bother with a set up so it's all dialogue essentially-

I don't recall if I've mentioned it before so pardon if I'm repeating myself - the general context is that the Foxhounds are having a movie marathon at a drive-in cinema to celebrate Vera's day hehe :D
(Also casually dropping The Sleepwalker's civillain name cough cough Althea cough cough)

"... Is she asleep?"

"Did you only notice now?" It was over an hour ago since Vera had slumped against Althea's shoulder.

"I thought she'd like this one. There's like, dancing and stuff."

"She has more than one interest, y'know," Althea laughed.

"I knowww," Maxine huffed. She turned away from the screen, nuzzling into the warm crevice that Vera created. "... This movie sucks."

"It's better than what we were watching before."

"You're just allergic to a grimdark story."

The melodrama of the romcom faded to the background. The world shrunk into a soft bubble of bird and deer and immortal.

"It seems I am," Althea laughed quietly. She turned her head at the hint of movement, catching Maxine stretched over Vera.

The deer didn't even try to feign innocence. "She won't notice if I eat some of her cookies."

"You're stealing her food? On her birthday?"

"Yup." There was no shame in her voice.

"... Split the food between us and I won't say a word."
