The princess felt hopeless. She had no cure and no mentor. The infection had taken everything from her citizens, her kingdom, and her world. She hated herself for failing, for not being able to save anypony. She was losing her mind, her will, her faith. She missed her brother, who was trapped in another kingdom. She did not want to let down her friends, who were some of the only ones left.
She saw the horde of creatures outside, waiting for her. She did not care. She opened the gates and charged at them, with her few loyal members of the Resistance behind her. She did not know if she could do this, but she knew she had to try. She was a princess, and she would not give up.
