OC: SamalOne of my main protagonists! Many of my characters including him were created back around age 12-13 (I'm 28 but I don't feel that old at heart lmao) but they've developed more intricate background stories since I rethought my work as an adult.
Samal enters as a 23ish-year-old student with impeccable street smarts, swordsmanship abilities, and a chip on his shoulder. His goal is to be a career military soldier in combat. After getting dealt a shitty hand with the loss of his mother and a transition to a group home, he re-entered society once he aged out of the system to pursue higher education and a chance to take control of his life. Maz, and employee of the only school that accepts him, takes him on as a mentor. However, a lurking struggle with addiction and mental illness paired with internalized trauma eventually rocks his world. In order to avoid expulsion from his school, Maz pulls some serious strings and decides to have him train for a year as a soldier traveling to different worlds, as a magisword warrior utilizing a magic system, in order to fulfill the school's one year internship period before graduating to a "cadet" essentially. Cue urban fantasy plot with a single portal to the human world, which has a secret magic history of its own. Exposure to other worlds and different people and perspectives opens all new possibilities for him. We'll see how this all plays out!
