OC: Samal - for OC challenge!Colored pencil drawing of Samal on toned paper! The background image was done with help of some photo reference but in the world I'm building around him it should look somewhat similar.
I gave a synopsis in my last Samal post but let's see if I can sum it up further:
Samal is a 23ish-year-old student livinf in an extra-terrestrial world with a goal of being a career combat soldier. He is also a swordsmanship enthusiast. After the death of his mother and his father going MIA, he was taken into an abusive group home until he aged out of the system. Upon leaving, he sets out to pursue a real education at a school with a military service requirement; he is accepted to one school, and Maz, a school employee and former magisword, takes him in as a mentor. Suppressed trauma from his past triggered a deep depression and problems with addiction, threatening to put an end to his education. In order to fulfill his military requirements, Maz becomes his caretaker and helps him become a mage/soldier in a different sort of military. This brings him to join a group of warriors on Earth - formerly trained by Maz - where he discovers the importance of teamwork, finds love, struggles with his mental health, and discovers who he truly is and what he really wants out of life - to become a part of something bigger than himself.
Samal identifies as gender neutral while using he/him pronouns. His end game partner is Kiara Silva, a human character. He's very fashion conscious, and is a pro at cooking/baking, house work, and clothing/jewelry making. He is very street smart, and not so much book smart due to his poor childhood education. He is primarily a swordsman/general martial artist and becomes the captain of his school's swordsmanship team, and eventually he learns how to fight with a sword in combination with magic. His mental health struggles include severe anxiety and depression including drug and alcohol addiction, which he manages to work through with the help of his mentor, best friends, and lover(s). Overall he's quite hot headed and carries a chip on his shoulder, but he tries his best to be humble and caring.Dec 23, 2020
