The lovely young lady pictured here is Audra, the protagonist of the fantasy novel I’ve been planning to write!! She is “frostborn” {albino}, which is viewed as an undesirable trait and portend of misfortune within her culture, though such superstition actually lends itself in Audra’s favor; the Commonwealth is ruled by demonic, vampiric entities known as the Gilded—for the golden ichor found in place of their blood—and they are always seeking a fresh meal, especially from beautiful young men and women. As part of an ancient treatise, the Gilded protect the people of the Commonwealth and do not feed upon innocents, and in exchange they are given humans that have been specifically bred to have delicious blood or extraordinary beauty. Those humans become thralls, magickally linked to their master or mistress and dependent on them…though they are also granted their immortal longevity, and so many view it as a high honor to be chosen as a thrall {even though the Gilded are shallow and cruel with their mortal toys}. Audra was raised within one of those breeding dens—the House of Thorns, though her condition allowed her to go unnoticed by the nobility. She used to feel ashamed that she did not meet the standards of the Gilded…yet as she grew older, Audra realized that her subsequent freedom was actually a blessing in disguise. However, it seems that she will not be able to avoid the Gilded Court completely, as her story is only beginning~
