Surface SouvenirsMermay time!! Believe it or not I started drawing this comic in 2022 and have been working on it every May since, but I always lost motivation when May ended and put it off until the next year 
but now I finally got it done!! I hadn't even finished all the lineart when I started working on it again this year, and all the colouring and shading I did this year too.
These two are my coelacanth and oarfish mers! They don't have names and they only exist during mermay lol. There's this theory (which has been disproven by now I think) that coelacanths could walk on land for short distances and were the ancestors of the first land animals, so I made it a part of this character because it's cool. They visit the shore and night and collect trinkets to bring to their oarfish friend :] Oarfish live in the deep sea and only come to the surface if they're dead or dying, so the coelacanth shows him a glimpse into what the world is like above the surface. But if he's honest, the oarfish isn't even that interested in the human world - he's just happy to spend time with them.

amazing jobHahah they are so cute!! I love the quiet demeanor of the oarfish as he enjoys his friend's explorative personality. There's also a sort of charm to them only existing during mermay xD it feels like they really do have their own world that we just get glimpses of
