digital art portrait practice :D (pls red the end for critique!)did this back in march (i think?) to finally start practicing digital art! I got my pen tablet last year but could barely use it cuz our laptop was too slow for the art program to run ;-; well thankfully we got it fixed in march and it works well now so I started working on digital art more!! I haven't spent a lot of time with digital art yet bc of some stuff so I still have lots to learn and improve (and I keep finding out more and more functions/features that digital art softwares can do it's so cool)
flipping the canvas for this and seeing the mirrored version was PAIN. SO MUCH PAIN IT LOOKS SO WEIRD WHEN FLIPPED AJHSKSBZ
pls look at the smiley blob on the right and the smiling thing on the left waving at u. they're so precious I loved drawing them :,D
QUESTION: What vibes do u get from this? :0 I'm very curious!
OKAY SO FOR GIVING CRITIQUE!!: •is the shading and shadows+highlights on the face okay? which parts do I have to work on?
•how's the color palette? I really tried with the color palette this time :,) the muted colors, and the complimentary colors (the bright red and the green) etc etc how do they look together?
•what do u think I could've added OR removed/lessend from the background ? I played around a lot with the texture brushes so u can see quite a few of those KSHWJVSJun 22, 2021
I think the shading is good, but I think the highlights can be desaturated and adding green sparingly. I think those would cause more of the colors to compliment the red. The overal color this is one of my fav pallets, the red blue and yellow. I think you nailed that part. The background is quite busy but it definitely works for this
I really like the abstract artsy vibe from this. It looks almost traditional which is hard to achieve in digital art, so good job especially if this is one of your first times using the medium!!
I find that because of the red cheeks and small doodles (stickers/tattoos?) On her face it makes the abstract background look like it belongs.
The green highlights were hard to see at first, I thought it was just another change in skin tone. It's hard to tell where the light source is coming from. So that would be my only criticism. Otherwise I love it!
vibe: something mysterious about this person, the background and doodles makes it seems like this person has this artsy aura? idk how to explain it but something complex bc of so much going on!
the shadows and shading of the hair and face look good to me. maybe the light, pastel green highlights on the face look a bit off to me bc idk what's the source (?) but it's still pretty good bc maybe it's your stylistic choice? if it is, i respect that! looks cool still
i like the overall palette. it suits them and their expression well. the red really gives color to the piece. something about faded/forest green with bright red looks good bc of they're complimentary colors, good choice.
personally i think all the textures and doodles are very unique and definitely belong there! not sure what to add bc it looks good already haha the way the happy and smiley face doodles contrast from the person's stoic face is interesting, idk the meaning behind it but they somehow add some abstract and "deep" vibes to this.
this piece seems very experimental and unique, can't wait for more of your digital work like these
Oh this is lovely, it almost looks traditional,,, that’s difficult to achieve with digital, good job! The circles on the cheeks are immaculate. The colours are great, I think they work together very nicely! Same with the background (though I may be biased because I adore chaos backgrounds). As for the highlights, My only problem would be that they’re not actually highlights; they’re the exact same in value as the rest of the face, and look more like shifts in colour than highlights. But that’s all ^^
