Oc | wip | 🌱

I made some progress on my new oc drawing but I could really use critique.
Especially regarding the background portion of the drawing, I want it to look more interesting and more dystopian. Specifically more busy and broken with nature reclaiming most of the city.
I drew the background after drawing the character which is something I don’t normally do and it’s made it a lot harder to draw the character in the environment in a appealing way.

Also, any feedback on things that I didn’t mention is also very welcome! Ty!

Hmm 🤔 maybe if it’s a long time after the end of the world, more vines or other plants on the structures like the train, the bridge, and the buildings would make it look more like nature has reclaimed them?

This is very beautiful!
I really love the colors and lighting going on here. The greens and blues are excellent.
I think if you wanna go with more of a "the world ended and now nature's taking it all back" theme it could be really cool to have like plant life spilling all over the train and buildings. You could also make some of the buildings look like there snapped in two and broke down. It could also help to add rust to the rails/train depending on how long ago it was all abandoned. (Spray paint graffiti could also be cool but I get that it doesn't totally match the aesthetic)
The only other critique I'd have is about the dog. Immediately when looking at the piece, the place where the dog is looks empty and blank. Which could be cool if you wanted to use thst on purpose, but if you want it to not pop out so much you could maybe add some colors to the dog thst match it's owner?
hey! i think the rendering of this piece is coming along great! love the colors and the design of the mc is super intriguing!

if you'd like some help on how to make the background more dystopian, i would suggest looking at references and perhaps pulling from different media that you enjoy! one that i would suggest looking at is the beginning scenes of the game Stray published by Annapurna Interactive! i think it has the type of hopeful-dystopian vibe you're lookin for!

if you want that classic dystopian vibe, i think dulling the colors a little bit would help, and perhaps putting an overlay to mute the really bright colors would help it read more as bleak "dystopian", but i understand that vibe probably is a bit intense compared to the vibe you're looking for.
