WOHN Falling from Heaven redraw (2026)I decided that I wanted to do a re-draw of this a year later to see how much it might change, but still kept the same idea. When I first started writing WOHN back in late January to February, one of the first images I drew of Doc was this falling one, using a quote by Mutsuo Takahashi:
“Being born into this world means falling from Heaven above, continuously falling as though accelerating in earnest, waiting for a helping hand.”

Its an image that evoked the design of Ouse in Fatal Frame 5: Maiden of Black Water, the image of a woman in bridal attire, her kimono fluttering like a flower, falling through black water, and it evoked a similar image of Doc. There was a lot of similarity I wanted to capture; his white coat like a white bridal kimono, his hand reaching up towards the heavens he falls from, and a hand reaching down towards him. The symbology of their hands reaching for once another, Doc desperate to be saved from his fate and helpless to help himself, was something I built into him from the beginning. I wanted to have him be in a place where he wishes for someone to save him, and through the story, learning how to find tools to save himself, but also find people to rely on so he isn’t alone.

Doc often has nightmares and dreams of falling, which ties into this image closely, and its the best kind of symbol to evoke his feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. There’s nothing to stop his rapic descent, and because its a nightmare, he has no control or idea when he will hit the bottom, and lives with this feeling of suspense and anticipation that has no relief. That kind of tension in your life wears you down, and I like to think that’s evident in the first episode, through to episode three.

I didn’t change too much other than trying to nail that falling, reaching pose, but I also sneakily changed one other thing.... Hmmmmm.
