Okay so in my recent text post I ranted about something someone replied to a comment I made on instagram and I need to rant again. What I said in my original comment was like this: it is very frustrating when people treat realism as the peak of art. Especially when someone wants to see your art, sees that it's "just" cartoony art and is disappointed. I'm not at all trying to put realism down, but many people, especially non-artists, think the more detailed and realistic the "better" art is.
That was what I said in the comment. There were two kinds of responses to that.
1) "Realism is fundamentally better, stylized art is just not impressive, that's just the truth." My brother in Christ I dare you to draw a comic with multiple characters and a consistent style (that is not just stick figures, because that's not what I was talking about in my comment). Anyone who says stylized art isn't hard or is worth less than other art has no fucking clue what they're talking about.
2) COMPLETELY missing the point. People kept managing to point out things that had absolutely nothing to do with the topic. "You need to study the basics of realism first, like lighting and anatomy, in order to draw stylised art." ??? And??? I literally said "realism isn't the peak art form" and they say "but!! You have to study its basics!!" How do you not see that those two statements don't contradict each other in any way
In the end I deleted my original comment and the 70+ replies because it was getting ridiculous. There was also one person hating on realism which was not my intention. My point was simply that no art style is better than others. They. Are. All. Art. And you shouldn't look down on someone because they have a certain style.Mar 20, 2022

Agh dude, seriously! I agree SO MUCH! Like, I think as well, you can find a certain style unappealing to you, but that doesn’t mean it’s worse than any other style! Like, you can have your own opinion on a certain style but that doesn’t translate to how “good” or “bad” or “impressive” it is
