I talked to someone in an instagram comment section about how much it sucks that many non-artists see realistic art as the best art form, and that often when they find out someone is an artist they want to see their art and are disappointed when it's "just" a cartoony style (luckily never happened to me but I've heard from others who had it happen to them). And someone joined to say that "cartoony art just isn't that impressive, no matter how you spin it." And like, I'm not even really mad, just so confused? After I answered that I continued scrolling through amazing art on Instagram and. They can have their own opinion for sure, but how can you see artworks like that and not be impressed? Specifically I saw an artwork of a dragon by thebrokentribes on Instagram and just, the pose, the shapes, the colour, the lighting, and the fact that they didn't just copy it but came up with it on their own? (Even if they used references, doesn't make it less impressive.)
Like I don't mean to put down realistic art. I SUCK at realistic art. But I've had friends who made it and they were amazed with my art too, because it has a distinctive style and I can draw the same thing (like a character) in different poses and angles and they still look mostly the same. I could bet the person who made that comment hasn't enjoyed cartoons since they were six because they deem them "childish" lmao. I'm gonna reshare some very impressive non-realistic art now to spread some love.Mar 18, 2022

YES so true!! I've even had an experienced artist tell me that my art is "unrealistic" (um, it's actually meant to be that way... -_-) But I also know a lot of artists and non-artists who like my work just the way it is and I appreciate them so much
I also know a few people who literally draw from photos by measuring everything everything a ruler (no imagination whatsoever) and everyone says that they're the best artists ever and such, while I've practiced for years and all I get is "oh, that's so unrealistic" (Haa sorry, I'm really passionate about this subject, lol)
