@Tiane's post on Artfol
When do we need to apply NSFW, Gore, or other filters?

Recently, I began to call out several users who I believed had posted content that should have been labeled as NSFW?
For example, what if the characters were in "sexy" naked poses but you couldn't see "anything" or they revealed everything but the private parts? And that left me feeling unsettled.
I'm addressing this in particular because I want Artfol to be a safe space for all users. There's a purpose behind the filter.
I'm simply aware that some individuals are immediately uneasy when they see "seductive" images. It can be difficult to determine whether or not anything need a filter. But I'm pleading with you to be more cautious.
In addition, I called out one user for sharing modified photos of, I believe, some K-Pop stars, and politely requested that they disclose the original photographer's name and URL so that credit could be given. They questioned for how to do so, but then became overwhelmed by my explanation? and left the app.

Now, I'm not sure if I was being too harsh? Nonetheless, I am certain that when we see this type of behavior, we should address it.
Artfol is MY SAFE SPACE, and I want this to apply to every user on here as well.
If you feel uncomfortable leave a kind comment so that other users get a better feeling of what to upload with or without a filter. + Remind people they can easily
upload the link (even afterwards!)

I often comment sth like : „ohh don‘t be shy, add the link in the description we want to support you & the original artist..“ :)
What are your thought on this?

I think there is a big difference between aesthetic and erotic nudity. Erotic nudity should get an nsfw filter. Aesthetic nudity (like in classic art) shouldn’t. That’s at least my opinion. I often sketch naked figures because classic art inspires me. There are no thought behind it and I am always a little bit annoyed when people don’t get that nudity isn’t always meant to look erotic

I think someone here nailed it when they said just imagine whether you would want to have to explain it to your boss. I wouldn't have to explain a naked statue/life drawing nude study, but when the pose is sexual I might feel iffy about it. The actual point isn't to cater to your boss obv, it's just a guide to know what may make many uncomfortable + keep in mind that there are minors here. They can still take the filter off, but at least when they're browsing, they won't see it if they don't want to. I know it's not a solid line that can be drawn tho. I'm not a minor but I prefer not to see very suggestive depictions, bc I'm like at the most un-sex end of the ace spectrum, but I understand it's different for other people, even other aces, so it's hard to say where the line is.

•I think your answer might actually be in Artfol’s TOS!
It states, “Any User Content, including, but not limited to, artwork that is suggestive in nature, contains nudity, must be marked as Not Safe For Work (NSFW). Pornographic content of any kind is not allowed and will be removed. Any User Content, including, but not limited to, artwork that contains blood, is vulgar in nature, or depicts gorey scenes, must be marked as Gore.”

I agree on your thoughts but I’m also thinking where is this grey area… because I recently posted something myself that I didn’t think was revealing or needed a filter, but I can totally understand where you’re coming from with just having minimal coverage or certain poses and I’m like hmm. Where is the line between okay and not okay and people’s perceptions of these things as well
Definitely something to be mindful of I agree, cuz Artfol should definitely be a safe space!

Making things like adding sources a habit on artfol would be great.
Hmmm I think I’ll experiment a bit with different formatting on future posts.

If someone gets "overwhelmed" by asking to source the photos, they either
A) Didn't consider photography art and didn't save any of the info before hand.
B) Intentionally stole photos to make "easy" content.
Either way sounds like they got shook over potentionally being seen as an art thief.
As for NSFW. I always keep in mind what it means.
Not Safe for WORK
I work in a hospital, if I don't want to explain to my 60 yr old boss what's on my phone, I tag it as NSFW.
That includes nudity, violence/gore, suggestive content, depictions of crime.
If you don't want the rando that sits behind you in class asking you about it, probably should mark it nsfw.

I only tag stuff as nsfw if it contains nudity lol. suggestive shit i don't really care about, it's difficult to draw that line of what's suggestive.
might be that I'm older than many here.
when people draw legit smut, i will let them know its not allowed before i report them though.

•I saw there's a 3rd filter option, a custom filter that you can put on your uploads. I've seen some persons place it when their art has bright colours, spoilers or depiction of drugs and it's still open-able for people with NSFW blocked. I think for suggestive art they can put the custom filter cuz yea their art isn't full blown NSFW but still I feel like I have to cover my screen when scrolling sometimes

•
I’ve only ever labelled one drawing as gore and it was for some blood and implied wounds through clothing, I’m still not sure if it was necessary? But I think a good policy is putting a more detailed explanation of what you’re warning for in the caption, so people can make an informed decision about whether it’ll make them uncomfortable.

I believe Artfol has a pretty good and to-the-point explanation of what's considered NSFW specifically Here (it can be found in Community guidelines in anyone's own profile) and I think we need to use filters to make the experience better for those who don't want to see nsfw or gore, while allowing those who draw it to share their art. Some art is disturbing or non-convenient or unpleasant to look at for some of us and it's okay! But it does upset me that some people here act like they don't know about filters. Maybe they do just forget and we need to make filters a practice, so that it becomes the norm
Also, I've been using custom filters for my own art, bc it's a great way of shortly explaining what exactly is being censored. For example, if I remember correctly, Artfol allows suggestive art without any visible bodyparts
but it needs to be tagged as nsfw. However sometimes I'm not sure if my drawings count as Suggestive. So i just use a custom filter and write what is there that could be interpreted as such, letting people decide if they want to see it of not.
I think it could be helpful with the posts you mentioned. Again, it's written in Community guidelines, we can all just check
As for the Crediting issue, i think you were right to address it. I don't know how exactly it went so can't say if you were or weren't too harsh, but crediting people needs to be something we all do (and so does asking for permission). It's basic human decency

I see some people filtering posts as seductive or sexual when there's really nothing at all, and some people filtering things as gore when there's also nothing. We really need a clear understanding of what counts as NSFW and gore

•
•I definitely think more needs to be marked NSWF. Especially because if someone has that filter allowed then it doesn’t hide the art at all so there’s no downside. I’m mostly saying that because there are definitely times I’m literally in work and there’s a half naked drawing in a suggestive pose but you can’t see nips or genitals so it’s not marked as NSFW. But it’s literally not safe for work

•
•A Bit of sexiness and nakedness is part of art in my opinion. You wouldnt label the David statue as NSFW would you? I scrolled through your paintings and couldnt find anything i would label as such
