Instagram comments are so depressing, just saw a video about someone's ocs mentioning that one is Christian and so many comments went "adding religion ruined it" "why specify that she's Christian" "religion should stay out of love and romance" BRO they're THEIR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS!! It's not like they made a general comment and specified "only applies to Christians tho" they literally just introduced their ocs!
You're so free to criticize religions with good reasons (and there are a lot of reasons!) but can we please stop shitting on anything and everything that has to do with religion. Please. I'm so tired of it. I don't wanna portray Christianity as a victim bc Christians have done a LOT of fucked up shit in the name of religion and still do so, but indiscriminately hating on religious people JUST because they're religious (and not because they, as an individual, might be a bad person or do bad things) is bigotry too.
(Note: I'm not talking about religious trauma here. I think it's very valid to have an aversion towards your former religion because it was used to abuse and manipulate you. But that doesn't seem to be the case with most people I hear talking like this. Respecting religious and spiritual beliefs should be the standard for religious/spiritual AND non-religious/spiritual people. And no, religion doesn't excuse bigotry towards any other group, I've said that before. You're free to hate bigots, but hate them for their bigotry.)
(This got much longer than I anticipated sorry guys I can never stop yapping

I agree with you and I am sorry you had to witness that along with the artist.
I think people need to separate the people from the religion. Every group will have good and bad people in it- in fact as humanity alone we have good humans and bad ones.
People should not bash that artist just because they made an OC who is Christian- that’s just plain darn discrimination in broad daylight. If people want to do better- then they need to start by not attacking people for the most non controversial stuff!
But then again I have seen people attack others just because they liked a theory that was different to theirs… (._. )

I love you for saying this.
As someone who is religious, i understand if you dont like us but most of the time (on the internet), people would shit on anything that even slightly mentioned it

•Tbh that's why am not that active on Instagram because oh my most of the people l have seen on that site are just so hateful
Sure l have met some good and chill people but most of the time l usually see the type of people that you mentioned in this post
But yeah let people add stuff to their ocs as long as it's not problematic or is not harming anyone
But yeah you do have a good point your allowed to don't like or disagree with a religion or religion in general
but yeah to actively just be a complete jerk to people when they haven't done anything is really unnecessary in my opinion
also may l add one point sometimes religion can be a part of world building or character writing
but yeah sorry most of this doesn't make any sense or is unrelated to this at all

•Some of y'all probably thought I only bash religion on here, but no
I am religious and only criticize it for what I think are valid points, but I feel deeply hurt by generalized hatred towards beliefs when they don't harm anybody

instagram is where braincells go to die i think.
I agree with your point; religion can be part of someone’s worldbuilding or character writing. Also, there is a distinction between personal faith and organized religion.
someone believing in God or heaven doesn’t mean they are personally responsible for the crimes of large religious organizations that may happen to have those beliefs in their foundation (i mean as long as they didn’t financially or publicly promote their bad practices, but that distinction should be obvious).

I have to have a rule with myself that I’m not allowed to comment on Instagram because I would just constantly be getting into fights with awful people and that’s not a productive use of my time.
I agree completely with you, it’s fine if you don’t like/disagree with a religion/religion in general but to actively go out and be mean to people when they’re not being bigoted is so unproductive.
Plus I think exploring a character’s religion can make a more interesting character. A person’s religion is deeply personal and getting to see that side of a character can create a stronger understanding of a character and their value system.
