I have a LOT of thoughts about this....at first glance it's like "yeah, i can understand their motive, factory farming on a massive scale is harmful in a lot of ways"... but then they're also against hunting and just anyone raising animals at all for any reason..? Like hunting is a more ethical alternative to buying from big companies. In like every way. also YEAH just like the rasicm of going up to indigenous people and asking them to remove huge parts of their culture
also. My final and biggest thing is that they never ever speak about or even seem to care about the suffering of human workers under the same system that creates such awful factory farming environments. They only care about 1 issue to their own detriment. Me, personally, if I had to chose one issue to care about out of these two, it'd be workers rights. But the thing is I DONT have to chose!!! Get intersectional with it! Anyway sorry for rambling

•Sorry but if you relentlessly attack an Icelandic shepherd who lives with her herd, treats her sheep with love, shears them when they need to be sheared, uses their wool for clothes and blankets, lets them breed in their natural breeding season because "that's animal abuse" shut the fuck up??? I can understand that sentiment for big corporations who keep their animals tied up or in metal cages all day but you can't expect every human on earth to give up farming, even if they treat their animals well. We as a species have been keeping animals for over 10000 years and we would have never come to be this advanced if it weren't for farming. So many of my friends are vegetarians and vegans and I don't have anything against those groups in principle, just those people who expect every single person to never kill an animal and use its remains again. Yes you can say there's no way to ethically kill an animal, but there are better and worse ways, and keeping animals is a part of humanity. (Also the opposite of this - people who are aggressive with their "I love meat" "your pet pig looks delicious" "I want to eat your house pet that you love and care for because it's traditionally a farm animal" - are so much fucking worse)
