My favourite thing in Young Justice is how everyone adopts each other's speech quirks. It started with Robin's stupid little jokes like "overwhelmed, underwhelmed, why isn't anyone ever just whelmed?" "Do you think the opposite of a disaster would be an aster?" And years later they're still telling each other to "stay whelmed" or to "feel the aster" to which outsiders are like ??? But everyone on the team understands and uses these words regularly.
When Impulse came from the future he kept saying "that's so crash" and eventually others started saying it too, especially Beast Boy. He just singlehandedly introduces future slang into their timeline.
Brion always says "mother of goat" as some sort of Markovian exclamation probably and it didn't take long for everyone else to use that expression too.
I just love how they copy each other's phrases and speech habits, it's so realistic and funnyJan 31, 2025
