Ok I need to know... how old were you when you found out that only fertilized eggs contain chicks, and that the eggs we eat don't have birds inside them? I honestly thought this was common knowledge, I learned it in kindergarten (yknow the time when you learn about all kinds of farm animals), but I keep seeing people online telling people with chickens not to eat their eggs because it could hatch, even though there's no rooster in sight to even fertilize the hens.Oct 12, 2022

Probably also in kindergarten, I was an animal nerd so yeh
I mean living in the country side that was pretty much common knowledge tho so if anything I was kinda late to the party since I lived in an apartment and all the other kids were from farms

I think I was 10,but I hated eggs so it didn’t matter.
Note of the day: Scrambled eggs stopped me from eating nonexistent chicks.

I remember our class hatching/raising chicks in Kindergarten (they didn’t survive and the teacher tried to hide it but forgot to take the trash out before class that day lol) So I think that’s when I learned how eggs work~

Maybe 9 but I forgot it for some time and then I found out again when I was like 10 or 12

Maybe 5 or 7, I don't eeally remember. What i remember is that we used to have chicken when i was a kid all the eggs we had were fertilized but no chick had the time to grow yet. And i always thought that store bought eggs was the same, i can tell you i was surprised that it wasn't the case. I refused to eat the eggs from home after that because i felt guilty of eating fertilized eggs.

I have no idea, it was always something I just knew so I guess very very young. My grandparents did raise chickens for most of my childhood so it must have come up at some point.
•
I remember joking about uneaten eggs hatching when I was younger but I knew even back then that that wasn't a thing
•
People… don’t know that??? Do they not know how babies work??? Unless the chickens are reproducing asexually, then there’s not gonna be any chickens in the eggs if you don’t have a rooster
