TenontosaurusSo uh. oops. the passage of time is an Evil Beast that I’ve been trying to wrangle since I’ve been alive.
I missed the wild card week of mesozoic march but I still have dinos on the brain, so I’ve got no plans of stopping anytime soon (other than for some reels and dnd stuff coming out in tandem). and I’m missing out on so many cool dinos, especially herbivores, so first up is this fella!
Iguanodontids are so donkey coded to me, and as a big fan of equines in general, they hold a special place in my heart. Tenontosaurus, being one of the smaller in this group, also resonates with me. It feels a bit like an underdog dino, but considering they’re one of the most common fossils found in their formation/time frame (if i remember right) I’d say they did pretty well for themselves.
The fleshy bits around its head were inspired off some old paleoart i saw during research, as well as the lighter skin on top of the head. I pulled inspiration from some other sources too, it probablyyy leans a bit more fsntasty than the real animal, but I’m happy with the compaosition and whatnot
scroll for some fossil/skeleton photos i took a few years ago for my photo class when i was in school (well, one photo, split in half)
[ID: digital illustration of a green tenontosaurus floating in an unnatural pose over a cyan rectangle on an off white background. Its head faces right, beak open and its upper body is below the lower body, one arm raised. its body twists around to form a reversed C shape, one back leg gathered at its side the other down pointed towards its head. its tail curves above it, following the contour of its body back down to the right side ending midway up its ribs. It has a lighter skin tomes head that matches a lower neck frill and frill running from its head to midway down its back. Above its eye is a bony structure, and lower down its back are spikes that run nearly to the end of the tail in the same color. In the bottom left corner is a watermark reading: “LEAVES AND INKS” /end ID]May 2, 2026
