Secret SaintThis is far different from my regular style. I don't know, I was feeling experimental. And surprisingly it went by much faster because I wasn't too focused on pretty line art.
So, my thought process for this piece was as follows. This character is dressed in color generally associated with 'holiness' or church or whatever you want to go with. Then you have the red eyes and black/grey hair, the opposite of the white and gold. Then the bandages! We have the secret saint. The one who otherwise would have normally been shunned but was instead blessed by the 'gods' and became a saint.
The contradiction! How oxymoronic! How blasphemous!
Behind her you'll see the stained-glass windows are actually lilies, which is what I'm pretty sure is the flower pictured in the original. Those usually mean purity. It kind of emphasizes the intention behind the design (or the intention how I see it). When the thing you fear is far more pure and kind then you are, what does that mean for your ideals?May 2, 2024
