4. Herensugue"The Herensugue is a basque dragon that makes a horrible noise when flying, and although he usually only has one head, sometimes it’s said that he had seven.
He lives in mountains and caves, and because he’s lazy, instead of hunting he usually threatens a town to make them give him sacrifices. Still, in most stories a hero manages to defeat him.
The most well known story is from the town of Arrasate, in which the Herensugue left his cave once a year and burnt everything in his way unless he was sacrificed a woman from the town. Every year they sorted who would be sacrificed to save the town, until one year it was the turn of the fianceé of a blacksmith. The couple was getting married just a few days later, so the blacksmith decided to put an end to the sacrifices and kill the dragon. To do it, he took a red hot iron bar and went with his fianceé to the dragon’s cave, who didn’t expect an attack, so they took him by surprise and the dragon was defeated."
[fun fact this one took me THE LONGEST and was a fucking pain, but so worth it and somehow it's my mom's favourite illustration from the book?? she hates everything evil and scary so i didn't expect that lol]Nov 11, 2025
I love that there's no inbetween with having one or seven heads?? XD Invested in the hidden story of the people reporting about what the herensugue looks like bahahah it makes so much sense why this would take the longest ajdjsjs the composition is so beautiful!! The movement and placement of each head is so well done argh even with how complex their shape is, the silhouette still feels super clear :D !!
Estos trabajos son hermosos de collage! y se ve que no debió ser fácil elaborar este trabajo, pero te quedó muy bello Un libro tuyo con este arte llamaría mucho la atención.
