9. Tibicenas«Tibicenas, also known as guacanchas, are hellhounds from the Canary Islands that serve the Guayota, the demon locked up in the Teide. They’re black dogs, hairy and big like horses, with red eyes and huge fangs. They rise from the sea and under the earth at night, because they’re sensitive to sunlight, and they’re so dark they’re barely visible during the night.

Their barks are enough to cause terror, and they can shapeshift in some legends. They destroy everything on their path, so people leave them offerings of meat and honey on the cracks on the ground to calm them down a little.

According to the Guanches (native people from the Canary Islands), the Guayota was a demon that lived in the Teide and threw fire and lava from the volcano, until one day he kidnapped Magec, god of the Sun, and trapped him in the mountain. Darkness fell over the island, so its inhabitants, desperate, asked for the help to the greatest god: Achamán, god of the sky. Achamán heard them and confronted the Guayota, and after defeating him in battld he freed Magec and locked the Guayota up in the volcano. The demon has been trapped there ever since, and now he can only let out poisonous gas. The tibicenas appeared during the battle between Achamán and the Guayota, and are still loyal to the demon.»

Annnnnd that's a wrap!! Sorry for taking so long to post the last two, idk why I did that 😭 but I really wanted to post them before the year ended so!! Two in one day :D

Thank you for reading, I hope y'all liked them 💜 the whole point of this proyect was making spanish folklore more accesible and i'm really happy to share it with y'all!! And really hope to finally finish it and publish it somehow :D soooo take this as an advance I guess? The finish book is a long time proyect but one i'm excited about!!

(Also do you guys remember one of the bad guys of Ryu's story? Ekaitz, god of destruction? Yeah so he's pretty much a copypasta of the Guayota lmao, tibicenas even appear in the story and that's why Ekaitz usually shapeshifts into a wolf. Also there's a joke in the story bc if you remember the canon story, it's basicly "group of friends get isekai'd into their friend's story" and when tibicenas appear Ícaro is like bruh did he not even brother to change the name??? And Pedro -the writer- is like sorry it was a placeholder I just haven't figured out a new name yet–)

The idiot human in me believes I can befriend them. Waving a doggy treat to win their favour 🦴🦴🦴

Also that's so exciting that you're working on getting this published????? being able to physically flip through all the folklore sounds incredible hehe, and this really feels like the kind of book little me would've been obsessed with (alongside all my dragons books y'know hehe) ^-^

Also also Pedro is so real, finding new names for creatures is hard sometimes 🙏
