This one is actually from summer of 2024 apparently??? Cause I tried to make it linesless and it Did Not Work so I abandoned it until I decided to rescue it as a colored sketch. And i'm glad I did cause look at them!!! Baby <#
Anyways this one is inspired by Obsidian's playlist being all slow melancholic songs and then BOOM. El innombrable by el cuarteto de nos. It just!! Described them too well not to add it!!! (I know the text is barely readable, but ssssh. It's just there for aesthetics)
And I know I said I'd keep this story vague but. I like you so here's some lore (sad stuff warning)
I think i've mentioned before that Obsidian is from a small isolated village on the mountains? Well, it wasn't always like that. Their pack (yes, shifters in this world are divided by packs, idc about cringe okay?) Was originally part of a bigger pack from outside the forest. But that was before mining became a thing! For you see, the mountains are full of crystals, metals and precious stones. So the miners from that pack made a small resting zone inside the forest to make their job easier, and it eventually became its own thing.
So, their origin and how isolated they are is why they're one of the smallest packs of the kingdom– but not the only reason. Cause you know, mining is an extremely dangerous job for a lot of different reasons. In this case, they had to completely close off one of the mountains because it was
full of silver, a material that is extremely toxic to shifters, to the point where extended exposure to silver makes them unable to shift anymore. And well, while mining isn't their main thing anymore, they're still the main source of precious stones and crystals of the kingdom. And those mountains are still full of old mines...
Long story short, the real reason they're now officially the smallest pack of the kingdom is that, 15 years ago, one of the old mines collapsed and caused a huge landslide. The landslide reached the town and, well... Obsidian is the only survivor
because of their location, they couldnt really get the hep they needed, and most of the healers lived in that neighbourhood so. Yeah. Obsidian was adopted by the leaders of the pack, and that's how they and Azufre became siblings :) but now everyone feels weird about Obsidian and mostly avoids them when they can. Well, that and more reasons. But, as Obsidian put it when explaining all this to Gabriel, "no one likes staring at a tragedy"Jan 4, 2026

Okay commenting to say I love the way Obsidian's scars (?) are rendered before I forget because- ohhh the worldbuilding is so interesting!! Having a disaster be the cause of why there's so few shifters in a pack, rather than inter-pack disputes, feels so fresh in this specific genre hehe. The survivor's guilt that Obsidian must have, oof T^T They're Going Through It
