did this on a bit of a whim tbh, i was finally listening to Banshee's discography (i thought i wouldn't like her because she does a lot of guttural vocals and im not the biggest fan but DAMN i was so wrong!!) and when i stopped to actually listen to the lyrics of "you are what you fear in me" it gave me the biggest Obsidian vibes afgreotre it's on their playlist now
the title also made me think of poker cards, kinda like two sides of the same coin but two figures on the same card, the same but oposite, mirrors of each other. and when trying to figure out the composition i went oh im sure there's an art nouveau poker deck and i found one by Henri Meunier and loved it so much that was my main reference, and ended up copying the colors too bc it looked like a fun challenge :D and im so glad i did, i love how they turned out
i was originally gonna yap about their relationship but i've decided against it to keep it mysterious :) i'll just say it's the messiest sibling relationship i've ever written. up there with Cecil and Dani's and Lyan and [spoiler]'s. but Azufre and Obsidian get the 1st spot on messy lol, and i can't help but think that the fact Obsidian is adopted makes everything worse :') not bc i have anything against adoption (adopted family is real family), but bc Obsidian was adopted when they were 10 and Azufre was an older teen, so Obsidian themselves never thought of their adoptive parents as their parents. it was more like... step family or godparents, you know? but they do consider Azufre their brother, and so does he. and they don't have to, but they do. and that pains me in ways i cannot explain :'))))Feb 26, 2026
